TUPAC IS BACK... ON THE BIG SCREEN

Tupac‘s biopic movie – All Eyez on Me – is coming to movie theaters on June 16th on Tupac’s birthday! Tupac Shakur was undoubtedly the most controversial and well known rapper of our time. After years of hiatus (because of a certain shooting incident), the man’s back on the big screen, and fans’ excitement levels are at a fever pitch of enthusiasm!

Eyez On Me, Keep ya head up, and Starin’ at the world thru my rear view. All of them are instant classics… or should I say class-sicks!

My first memory of Tupac Shakur was when I was a little kid – in my pre-teens – and I was hanging out with a couple of guys from the neighborhood. Soon, our lame time wasting hang out led to us finding a bag of cassette tapes that one of our neighbor’s kids stashed away in a corner of the alley. I really feel like that was one of the strangest scavenging hunts that I have ever done. BUT, I found gold, and I didn’t even know!

Soon, our somewhat stolen tapes found their way into my bedroom. One tape was Metallica, one was Snoop Dogg‘s Gin & Juice, and the last tape was Tupac’s ’95 classic album – Me Against the World.

As I found myself headbangin’ to Metallica, I also got hooked onto Tupac’s Temptations. From there on, my life was changed forever. With 2 classic tapes in my hand, I was the coolest kid in school!

So, when I heard that Tupac’s biopic titled ‘All Eyez on Me’ was about to drop on June 16th – on Tupac’s birthday – flashbacks of my somewhat stolen tapes flashed in my head. The hours I spent memorizing Tupac’s lyrics zoomed thru my mind, and the countless hours I spent emulating his character blew my cranium like a movie scene.

This is gonna be EPIC! And I can’t wait to check it out

IS RANVEER SINGH TURNING INTO A RAPPER

Is actor Ranveer Singh, changing his profession and turning into a rapper, because that is what it seems nowadays, to be the top priority of the actor. Well, all this interest in rap music and rappers by the actor is an upcoming movie by director Zoya Akhtar of ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ fame, which is titled ‘Gully Boys’. The character that Ranveer play in the movie is influenced by the rappers ‘Divine’ and ‘Naezy’, such is the dedication of Ranveer Singh for the role, that he had pinged Vivian Fernandes aka Divine that they should chill out together, and Vivian has been star struck with him snap chatting from Khar, both the artist are admirers of each other works and follow each on the social network.

Well the movie idea came when Divine was performing in Mumbai at a now defunct club in Lower Parel, and Zoya Akhtar was in the audience sitting listening to him rap, after his performance they briefly talked about the Mumbai growing hip hop circuit, and Zoya took her number. In the following days, Zoya visited Divine and she told him that she wants to make a film on the Mumbai’s street rapper. Divine recalls that their conversation mostly was around his inspirations and ambitions.

Until a few months back Divine was oblivious to the fact that Ranveer was playing the part in the film as a rapper as a lead actor. He goes on say that he is cool with Ranveer playing a rapper and says that he will rock it as he usually dresses like a rapper. Divine also goes on to say that their songs which are not about gold, drugs or girls but is about the real social issues plaguing the society of Mumbai and it is a big feat if the audience listen to their songs but a mainstream actor taking up their cause is a whole new ball game in all its entirety, Divine says that Ranveer is now a Gully Boy and part of the movement.

The film is due to kick off for production in the month of November with actress Alia Bhatt opposite Ranveer Singh and the film is expected to release in 2018. Divine is also working side by side on a music video, which Sony Music will release later this year and a question arises whether Divine will be debuting as a Bollywood composer-rapper or not, but we would love it no matter what if he debuts as a Bollywood composer-rapper, and our very own Ranveer Singh has recorded a rap track with group of rappers and he is good at it as told by Divine and goes on to say that he would do justice to the role and to the film at large.

RAFTAAR is working with Anmol Malik

Rapper Raftaar and singer Anmol Malik just composed a song for a show, “Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain” on &TV Channel. Raftaar who has been busy making music for movies has made his musical debut on the small screen. In all honesty, I am not a fan of the show and find it rather corny and it rather came as a surprise that a rapper such as Raftaar wanted to affiliate himself with such a show.

The song is a peppy rap, that will go along the lines of the subtle humour on the show. The lyrics of the song have been specially crafted to suit the tempo of the show. Anmol spoke to other sources and said the following,
“I had a great time writing, composing and lending my voice to the ‘Bhabhi Ji…’ song. I think it’s stellar that such a popular sitcom which the audience enjoys so much will have a single to it. Honestly, it was a ‘Sahi pakde hain’ moment for me when I was approached for this”.

“The song has turned out to be as quirky as the show itself! I have personally enjoyed working on the song and collaborating with Raftaar,” she added. “Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain” is aired on &TV.

|| LAZARUS || Drops Something special for Pakistan on "PAKISTAN DAY".

Y’all know who Lazarus is. Just in case you don’t, Lazarus is an American rapper of Pakistani descent. He dropped the biggest collaboration at the start of the year, ‘MTBK’ along with Bohemia and has not looked back ever since. Well, he is back with, ‘Pakistan‘ and it has him rapping in Urdu. He did this as his contribution to Pakistan and Desi hip-hop and the purpose of it was to thank his ever growing desi following, and that he has not forgotten where he comes from and maintains the pride for his history and lineage.

I first heard Lazarus spit in Urdu in,’Drug of Choice‘. It was very different to me and comparing that with what he was rapping in English at that time I was not very certain if I liked it. However, his verse in ‘Pakistan’ is dope. There is a marked change in the fluency, it seems more natural in this release. The instrumental is by Ghauri and the elements that he has used set up a perfect ambience for the message. It seems that Lazarus sincerely wanted to do something for Pakistan on Pakistan Day this year, it is clear that this verse is for the country of his roots and bloodline.
